Synopsis

A reimagined Nusantara folktale, Bawang Putih Bawang Merah follows stepsisters Bawang Putih and Bawang Merah as they navigate loss and grief on a journey of self-discovery and liberation.

Darkly humorous, the production asks whether they can break free from the constraints of patriarchy and monarchy — challenging traditional fairy-tale tropes to cast the sisters as heroes of their own stories. Performed in Malay with English surtitles.
